![]() I found flac downloads for Breezes of Patchouli and the deluxe 2CD Sunshine Superman and I listened to them over the course of a couple days just recently and I was a bit surprised to hear so much negative comments about them over the years, here and other places as well. "Young Girl Blues" sounds the least distorted on this version and the EQ is "sympathetic." It has more treble than #1 but not overly so like #2 does. ![]() There is less tape hiss, but it's at a consistent level, which I assume means it's from a better tape source than the 1980s CD. Despite what some people have claimed this does NOT have NR. 1994 "Four Donovan Originals" UK Box set mastering, which is unique to all the other versions I've heard. Even though it says it's newly remastered from the original master tapes, it's not, and is in fact the 2005 CD.Ĥ. Mellow Yellow: Directly from Donovan's website. Strangely the Wear Your Love Like Heaven is NOT the same as the BGO portion of A Gift from a Flower to a Garden, either stereo or mono, and it's not the same mastering as the 2005 CD, so I suspect that portion is a unique mastering.Ħ. Mellow Yellow/Wear Your Love Like Heaven 2 on 1 CD (Collectables label): The Mellow Yellow portion is a clone of the ESCA. "Young Girl Blues" sounds the least distorted on this version and the EQ is "sympathetic." It has more treble than #1 but not as much as #2. I received confirmation by email from the record company that it is NOT a new remaster and is in fact a clone of a previously released version (didn't say which one, but I'm assuming the 2005 minus the bonus tracks).Ĥ. The current Mellow Yellow issued last month is so new that it's not listed in discogs yet. Still necessary for any collection because of the previously unreleased tracks.ģ. ![]() This has some great bonus tracks, so you may want to consider it anyway for those, even though I don't recommend the mastering on the main album or the bonus tracks. 2005 remaster (Peter Mew remaster): From a better tape source than the original CD but NR'd to the extent that there are distracting artifacts. Sounds "fine" but as you say it's kind of muddy.Ģ. The ESCA you own is the same mastering as the original Epic 1980s CD. Important to keep in mind that this album was probably the least well recorded among Donovan's catalog and songs like "Young Girl Blues" are always going to sound muddy. At risk of exposing my obsessive compulsive nature when it comes to such things, I have done careful comparisons among what I believe are all the different CD remasterings of Mellow Yellow. ![]()
